Protecting our Movements: Research Methods against Surveillance
Workshop design and facilitation
Cambridge, UK
on 25 September 2025
I designed and delivered this workshop as part of a Cambridge Digital Humanities Methods fellowship.
Sofija's workshop focuses on research practices suitable for working in solidarity with social movements or communities targeted by digital surveillance and other forms of digital repression. The key aim is to examine practical ways to build solidarity from the university's institutional location. Participants will be invited to ground themselves in the context of increased criminalisation and repression of social movements, learn about different lineages of digital security work as part of broader collective care or safety practices, map organisations, methodologies and resources in this ecosystem, and work on practical skills and resources (particularly around consent, harm, conflict and repair in these contexts).
