This panel brought together a mix of unions and academics documenting and organising against the complicity of big tech companies in the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian peoples and occupation of Palestinian land by Israel. Companies such as Google, Amazon and Microsoft have been profiting from selling surveillance technologies and other tools to the apartheid Israeli regime for years, most notably through Project Nimbus, which provides cloud computing services to the Israeli government and military. Tech and gig workers have been at the forefront of organising against big tech’s complicity in apartheid and genocide, as well as internal cultures of racism and lack of accountability. It will focus on how workers’ struggles and resistance against surveillance technologies can be brought together as the path forward to create cultures of accountability.
